In five years here i have written hundreds of articles. Few were more important than this one discussing HIV and Std's among the Transgender Community. The only thing i was taught about sex from my parents is wait until marriage and that nice people don't discuss sex ever. Did their prompting work? No! Of course no one told me what to do when abstainance doesn't work. In the Army in Vietnam I contracted Gonnorhea which was cured. Sex education could have saved me a lot of grief. From the many letters I've received here others weren't so lucky. Some were engaged in risky behavior from unprotected sex to IV drug use with shared needles.

The fact is as human beings our sex drives are built in. The truth is it's only a matter of time until we succumb to our urges. There are those who argue that abstainance is the only prevention. While it's a nice goal the results aren't very good. Most can count those who waited for marriage on one hand. Obviously having a backup plan at the ready is prudent. Ignorance does not ward off disease.

Aids and STD"S are entirley preventable. If you can't avoid high risk behaviors there are steps you can take to protect yourself. We urge you to do so. Educate yourself today. Ignorance can be deadly. While my email reveals less than 100 with HIV/Aids the actual number in the Community is likley far higher. 86.9% were IV drug users.
