It is no secret that the Transgender unemployment rate is the worst of any group. Those that do have jobs face discrimination and are in danger of losing their jobs. Over 80% of us are clinically depressed and without medical insurance. The government collects no statistics on us. If it wern't for the press sensationalizing us no one would even know that we exist. Most are far below the poverty level. Families and friends turn their back on us and many end up on the street. Homeless shelters for both men and women turn us away. Even cats and dogs have a shelter. The transgendered have only a couple of shelters worldwide.

"TES" Transgender Emergency Shelter is getting ready to open their first shelter, Azalea Hill in Macon Mississippi. The Shelter will be open to Transsexual/Transgender persons both Male to Female and Female to Male, pre-op , post-op or non-op from any where in the South East who find themselves in an emergency situation and need a place to stay for the night or longer. The shelter will be a transitional shelter and will offer developmental programs to aid each resident in their personal needs. Macon being in a rural area will gives resident a place to calm their minds and reflect on their goals so they can move forward in a positive direction. TES House is not an end but a beginning.

This shelter will quickly be filled to capacity and is unfortunately just one drop in a large bucket. Thousand more of these shelters are needed. We have to help ourselves. The government is certainly not going to do this. We are not even on the radar. There are over 2 million Transgendered people in the United States alone.
