I read slower than Lizzy!

I don't think that there is any hope for that boy's grandfather and little hope for him since he is doing just what grandpa says.

Love ya,

And I'm slower than Sally....

That poor child is merely being used as a pawn in the grandfathers bigotry!
Shame!

That's awesome the girl won the case. I don't think she would've ever won in a state like Texas...

QUOTE
It was the commission’s second ruling in two months on transgender people and public restroom use. On May 18, the commission found that a transgender woman was discriminated against at a Denny’s restaurant in Auburn when management would not let her use the ladies room until she had sex reassignment surgery.

Neat; another trans person in the city I live in (assuming she lives here).

I am happy for the little girl and her parents. I hope it will lead to education. I worry about the grandfather and any of his future plans to encourage the harrassment of this little girl and her family.

there is no excuse for a parent allowing that kind of behavior from their child toward another never mind encouraging, and possibly directing said child to engage in it.
were was the outrage about that, he should have been arrested, or at least condemned for it gerrrrrrrrrrr.
this is why no one of us is surprised by stories of terrible unthinkable crimes perpetrated on us, then frustrated at being condemned for wanting laws that protect us, saying we want "special rights", special rights? yes esp when your singled out for special wrongs.

I just read another trans person was found shot dead in a Philadelphia park this morning.

lets be safe out there, and be thankful we have each other.

nasty nasty nasty .. how could he consider he had the right to give permission for somebody to use facilities the school didn't think they were entitled or allowed to use. He does not have the authority.. and should at the minimum receive an official reprimand and possibly more.. it's incitement of another to comit a hatecrime after all.. and probably incitement to trespass with malocious intent.. there we go.. some actual offences there XD ooooooo .. makes me so mad people like this...

I get this kind of rubbish all the time too.. some days I'm allowed to use one set of facilities and others I'm not.. so I take the only alternative and keep my money in my pocket and go elsewhere.

Well done by the school for at least attempting to resolve the situation.. I think they were motivated by the safety of the child rather than any malicious non thinking. There.. it's set me off now trying to second guess motives.

I agree completely with your conclusion. I don't understand why they're ignoring the hatecrime as if it was nothing either. At least we're making some progress, though.

This situation has been ongoing for a year and a half now. I've seen several articles about it, including an article yesterday(?) covering the favorable decision by the state board:

mega *sigh*

Yeah, the grandfather is a nut job and telling his grandson that its alright to disobey the law?
He's just setting up the stage for some major problems down the road.
Seriously, if I was there I would read him the riot act! I'd also seek to have the custody of the child removed from him and place the child in a different school some distance away from the young lady for safety reasons.

But the school seems to be doing a good job by the young lady. (thank god, finally a school acts like it understands)

This story first came to light about a year and a half ago.
http://www.lauras-playground.com/forums/in...?showtopic=1322
The link to the BDN article no longer works but the gist of the story is provided in the link provided by Ghanima Corrino.
I'm glad to hear that some progress has been made in this situation. What's particularly disturbing are the comments made at the bottom of the article. While there were some positive comments, most were not. It appears that bigotry is still alive and well in the state of Maine

I think that the grandson needs to be protected from his grandfather and ALL the transkids need to be protected from both of them. Unfortunately, even though the boy was put up to it by gramps, who knows what the kid can be coerced into doing next. I have no doubt grandpa has corrupted the boy. Child protective services should investigate. The boy probably gets beaten by grandpa if he doesn't do his bidding. Grandpa sounds like he is practically blind with hate.
