My name is Kitae Kahanamoku (well not really, but until I come out, I need to keep my RL ID under wraps). I'm a male in my 50s, a professional in information technology, midwesterner, and I'm intergendered. How nice to not have to explain that to this group! I first considered transitioning over 30 years ago, but support communities like this just didn't exist. Additionally, in those years, the paradigms were different, and I couldn't fit myself into them.
I've been laying the groundwork for making the transition for several months now. Just today, I went to a local doctor whose practice is in my insurance network, to arrange for a complete physical. I'll be specifically asking him if he can see any reason to not start me on HT, and hopefully I'll get the green light. I'll transition to a being more female than male. I've spent 53 years as a sissy man, and I hope to spend the rest of my life as a tomboyish woman. I hope to pass only on first glance. I don't care if they read me past that.
I'm blogging my transition, but didn't know the playground had a blog facility, so I set this up on Wordpress. Of course, I've read the Terms and Conditions, and I looked to see if there was any prohibition about posting links to outside blogs. I didn't see one, but it's worth asking here. Is it OK to post a link to my Wordpress blog?
My experiences may or may not be unique. But there could be something in there that could help someone else in getting it all figured out. But you can be sure I'll be here from time to time to see what I can learn from everyone else. I'm excited and scared to death at the same time.
It's good to be here, and to know I'm not alone!
Regards,
-Kitae

Welcome to Laura's! Nice to have you join in. Will have to check out your blog. Yes, it is really nice to have this place to learn life lessons in transitioning, coming out to others, and such.
I am 52, and just got the go-ahead from my Therapist for starting HRT, so I am really excited! Oh, and I have been off and on in IT in various positions, but tend to avoid the latest and greatest in technology. I like the tried and true, where possible.
So again, Welcome to Laura's!
Huggs,
Opal

I look forward to seeing more from you. Let us know how the doc visit goes.
More thanks, to Miss Kindheart and Sarah F. I'll indeed sign up for that chat.
Since my post, I've contacted a gender therapist, reclaimed some monthly income better used for transition (more of that to come), emotionally cut loose some baggage (gears) I've been clinging to for years, and....
*drum roll*
I came out to a co-worker whom I felt I could trust, who owned me a favor, and whose fashion sense I've been admiring for several years. She agreed to go out with me to help me wardrobe shop in the future. After she agreed to keep my secret and help, I told her I'd fix her and her families computers forever! I feel a lot calmer now, and will let the therapist suggest the pace of events from here on out. Now the therapist I contacted may not have room for an additional patient, but I figured she'd be able to refer a colleague if she's full-up.
I also came out to a woman who's a player of the two MMORPGs that I also play, and who I've been close to. She's had both female and male chars for a long time, as I've had both male and female chars. This was via e-mail accounts I'm only using for my transition persona, and last word from her was "I'll have to finish this at home tonight". Her religious faith is different from mine, so I'm wondering how she'll react, but I expect it will be with tolerance.

Sounds like you are well on your way to becoming the woman of your dreams!
Many of us transitioned later in life, so you are by no means alone, as I
see you have already found out. It is never too late to be the woman you
have always wanted to be!!!
Hugs, Miss Ricka
