Later this week (Wed-Fri) I will be going on a business trip to central California.
Usually, they are part boring (sitting through seminars), part interesting (OK, some seminars are good), and part fun (exploring a new town, eating well on someone else's dime). This is the first trip I will have since rediscoving my inner Carolyn Marie. I plan on adding some new wrinkles. Such as finding time in the morning or evening to call and Skype with friends here, without having to worry about who else is in the room. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) Such as taking some clothes, a new nightie and my wig and makeup and spending my evenings in female mode. I have to worn you about business trips, that is where for me Amanda came out and did not want to go back into her little box again. OMG!!! I have to tell you about the gutsie thing I did a few weeks ago. I have been traveling once or twice a month alone for the last 5 months. The time before last I got bored with my room and headed down stairs through the lobby and out to my car in full Amanda mode. I drove around for a while and then ended up at a chain Drug Store. I sat there for a while trying to get my courage up. I watched people come and go and when I felt like there was a mostly female crowd in the store I went inside. It was a rush like you can not believe. I was slowly moving down the make up isle looking for something new for myself. I ended up buying an emory board and some press on nails and a new lip stick. The clerk at the register was kind to me and asked if I wanted a bag or did I just want to put the items in my purse. I choose to save the bag. I was high on adrenaline all night. I highly recomend it if you can get up the nerve. Maybe save this for the next time, I know I am a bit bolder than you sometimes. I love all the full length mirrors that most Hotel rooms have. I also have enjoyed rediculously long baths, this is a great place to shave your legs or try some spray-on hair removal products. You can also paint your toe nails since no one else is going to be seeing your toes for a few days, I sugest fire engine red! My trip is nearly over, and it turned out almost as good as I had anticipated.
Some highlights: I did get to be Carolyn parts of two evenings, with wig, makeup and clothes. I wore pantyhose under my male "costume" both days, too. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) I got to show the real Carolyn to two friends via web cam, but didn't get to show a couple of others I had wanted to. Sorry, Brenda and Lizzy. Another time. It was so much fun to let others see me as I really want to present myself, and it was the very first time. So I was thrilled about that. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/biggrin.gif) I enjoyed seeing all the fine business women here and see how they were dressed. They are my role models, even if they didn't know it. GRIN! I won a nice raffle prize last night - a gift basket with a bottle of local wine, some wine glasses and food items. I got it seconds after telling a colleague that I NEVER win raffle prizes. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/tongue.gif) One kind of funny thing - I put all of my toiletries on the bathroom counter top when I arrived, both my male stuff and makeup - lipstick, eye liner, mascara, foundation, etc. The items were placed rather haphazardly. When I got back to my room yesterday afternoon, after the maid had been here, I found all the items neatly arranged on top of a face towel on the counter. Hmmmmm. I had to smile when I saw that - I would give anything to know what she was thinking when she saw all the makeup items, since she probably knew there was only one person staying in my room. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/wink.gif) I'll never know, but at least she did a fine job of arranging my things.! She'll get a nice tip. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif) The only unfortunate thing is that I left my new nightgown in the back of my truck at the airport. (IMG:style_emoticons/default/mad.gif) Oh, well, at least I didn't lose it, but I was looking forward to sleeping in it. Nothing too extraordinary, just a chance to be myself for a little while. And I'm sure they've seen an AWFUL lot more then what you've presented. Just so long as your collegues don't know. Regarding Mia's comment about the 80's. In the late 80's and into the 90's, I traveled about every 3-4 months, usually for 3-4 days, mostly by myself, at most with another co-worker. One night was company night for whatever was going on, the other night was basically our own. I just had to learn to make sure I was completely cleaned off my morning. Those days are gone, <sigh>, now I'm lucky to get away about once a year. Anyways, it sounds like you've been having a great time, Carolyn. Fill us in more when you're done.
