My suggestion is to do a fresh install and fully update it, install your applications and drivers and set the machine up the way you like it and then create the image. That way the image is small and not measured in the hundred of gb if not tb.

If I could do that, reinstall everything, I wouldn't need to backup the programs, I was looking for a way to I guess make images of each program so I could reinstall them without the original discs.

Norton Ghost is my tool of choice but its not free by any standard and does have the option for usb and network imaging

I got rid of norton about 3-4 years ago when I discovered McAfee runs at a better efficiency.

Maybe one of the Mods or Admins could move this forum in the site comments to either a thread or board of its own :D just a thought

A different board would be fun. Like a tech area completely :D.

Well if you had the disc you could clone it but you can't just make a image of the program already installed on the operating system because of the windows registry and shared files that the program depends on.

No problem Zab, there are lots of us to lend out skills. School is way more important

there are tools which will monitor all installs on a system but goback is one of them but my experience is that they tend to bog the system. Granted the last time i tried one was on a 1 Ghz box with 512 ram. But they have to be installed and running as you install for them to know where all the settings have bee written; at this stage of the game my feeling is that it would be either a full backup or something like ghost.

IMHO

Alright, here's a problem I don't expect to get an answer to, but I'll try anyway:

I recently installed Ubuntu in a dual-boot fashion with another Linux-based operating system called Jolicloud. I had the partitioner split my hard drive in half and allocate equal space to both. After the installation process, I was able to boot into Ubuntu from the GRUB, but trying to get back into Jolicloud gave me an Error 15. I Google searched for hours and tried countless steps. In the end I edited /etc/fstab with the UUID for the Jolicloud partition and then issued the "grub-install /dev/sda" command for that partition. Upon reboot I was able to access Jolicloud but now Ubuntu gives me an Error 15.

So I mounted my Ubuntu partition (/dev/sdb6) and opened up /etc/fstab. I added the UUID for Ubuntu directly underneath the UUID for Jolicloud, saved, and issued "grub-install /dev/sda" again. I restarted and I could access Jolicloud, but I still got Error 15 for Ubuntu. The only way to get Ubuntu to boot at all is to edit /etc/fstab, remove the UUID for Jolicloud, and add the UUID for Ubuntu. But if both are in the /etc/fstab file, only one will work.

What do I do?

Anna,

When you are at the grub menu are you able to manually boot into both systems.
I think that Ubuntu may generate the /etc/fstab file on the fly. I don't know about jolicloud. The problem is in the grub file loaded on the boot sector.

Is it more than 90 pixels square? If it is, it won't go.

Well... Turns out if you change the name of your avatar so it doesn't have the same name of your previous uploaded, it changes. Woo.

When I try to view my own profile, I get an error message saying I can't view anyone's profile. Is this because I'm too new?
